Front-End Water Separation Before Fine Filtration
The Moisture Separator Filter Element is installed at the front section of gas turbine or large compressor intake systems. Its main task is to separate rain droplets, mist and free water before the incoming air reaches downstream fine filters.
This front-end position is particularly important in environments where liquid water can enter the intake system during rain, fog or high-humidity operating conditions. Reducing the amount of free water reaching downstream filters can help limit the direct moisture load placed on fine filtration stages.
The recommended face velocity is 3–6 m/s. Available structural options include vane-type and coalescing-type designs. Material options include aluminum alloy, stainless steel and engineering plastics. Dimensions can be customized according to the actual intake-system module.
Two Water Separation Approaches
The vane-type structure works by changing the direction of airflow. Water droplets with greater inertia separate from the moving air as the flow path changes.
The coalescing-type structure works differently. Smaller droplets combine into larger droplets, which can then be removed through gravity and the drainage arrangement.
These two approaches allow the Moisture Separator Filter Element to be configured according to the actual intake environment rather than applying one structure to every site.
The product is particularly relevant to offshore platforms, coastal power stations, tropical high-humidity regions, foggy areas and locations with frequent rainfall.
Selection Based on Air Velocity and Drainage Conditions
Unlike a final particulate filter, this product mainly handles moisture separation. Buyers should therefore focus on intake velocity, humidity, rainfall or mist conditions, drainage design, allowable system resistance and available installation space.
