Air Intake Prefilter Element

The Air Intake Prefilter Element is normally installed before the main filters in a gas turbine intake system. Its primary function is to capture coarse particles, pollen, insects, fibers, larger dust particles and part of the incoming water droplets before they reach the downstream fine and high-efficiency filtration stages.

By removing these contaminants at the first stage, the prefilter reduces the particle load placed on more advanced filters further inside the intake system. This makes it particularly useful where the outside environment contains significant dust, vegetation particles, insects or other coarse airborne contaminants.

The available filtration grades cover ISO 29461 T2–T6. Rated airflow ranges from 2,000 to 4,500 m³/h per element. Common thicknesses include 48 mm, 100 mm and 102 mm. Filter media options include synthetic fiber and polyester composite materials.

Different grades and thicknesses can have different airflow and resistance characteristics, so these operating values should be confirmed according to the actual model rather than assumed from thickness alone.

The product can be supplied in panel, pleated, bag-type or removable filter-pad structures according to the intake system design.

Standard, hydrophobic and coalescing functional configurations are also available. In normal dry environments, a standard prefilter can be used for coarse-particle interception. In coastal, humid or rainy locations, hydrophobic or coalescing configurations can be considered to help handle part of the incoming moisture and droplets.

The Air Intake Prefilter Element is suitable for first-stage filtration in gas turbine intake systems, industrial turbines, large compressors and combined-cycle power plants. It can also be used in coastal, agricultural and high-dust regions where the intake air contains a relatively high load of coarse contamination.

Selection should consider not only the nominal filtration grade but also environmental humidity, particle loading, available frame dimensions and the downstream filtration arrangement.
